The Aviation 12 course is provided for individuals who are interested in obtaining their private pilot’s license and/or those interested in gaining knowledge in an exciting career in aviation. This course allows students to maximize opportunities for future career development in aerospace while still in high school. Preferred entry into the joint University of the Fraser Valley/ Coastal Pacific Aviation program may be given to candidates who successfully complete ground school. Students will use critical thinking and analytical skills in aerospace engineering, program management and maintenance.
The Aviation 12 program is intended to provide students with the foundation skills towards obtaining their private pilot’s license while in high school. All course materials will be provided by Rick Hansen Secondary and Coastal Pacific Aviation and are industry standard approved under the supervision of Transport Canada safety board. In-class instruction is provided at Rick Hansen Secondary, while experiential education in aviation is enhanced by various fieldtrips in the Fraser Valley and Washington State. These field trips include tours of the YXX/Abbotsford Air Traffic Control tower, Cascade Aviation, Conair, West Jet, Chinook Helicopters, Coastal Pacific flight training facilities, and the Seattle Museum of Flight or Boeing aircraft construction facilities. These experiences provide students the depth of opportunities available in various aviation careers not just available here in the Fraser Valley, but throughout the world.
